Matthew Thompson made British Rallying history as the youngest ever driver on a British Rally,
when he started the Roskirk Junior Stages of the inaugural UK Formula 1000 Junior Rallying
Championship.
It was Sunday 8th March 2009 and Matthew was 14 years and 12 days old. |
Following the completion of a successful 2011 season, that culminated in finishing 2nd overall in the Pirelli Kick Energy J1000 Championship, Matthew is now in the process of preparing for the 2012 rally season. It is planned to focus 2012 around the BTRDA Rally First championship, taking in some of the best gravel rallies the UK has to offer.
Have a look around the website for reports and photographs on past seasons and more news on 2012 as the season approaches.

Matthew finished a very respectable 8th overall for the 2010 season.
During his 3rd and final year of junior rallying, Matthew's first ever stage win
came on 13/3/2011 at the opening rally of the season – the 2011 Roskirk Junior Stages.
For that 3rd year in 2011 Matthew competed in the Pirelli Kick Energy Junior Rally Championship; the championship is restricted to drivers aged 14-16 and Matthew started the season as a leading contender in the championship.
Having started the season with a terrific win, Matthew ended with a win too, at Anglesey’s Glyn Memorial event – one of Matthew’s favourites. It was to be Matthew’s 3rd win of the season helping him to clinch 2nd place overall.

Looking ahead to 2013
After 4 seasons of rallying in the Nissan Micra, the plan for 2013 is to build a new car and move up to a bigger engined car. In terms of events, the plan is to compete once again in the BTRDA Rally Series, starting with the Wyedean in February. Over the winter months alongside getting the car ready, Matthew will be searching for additional sponsors and supporters to help with the 2013 rally season (see below).
